As the Southeast Asian Games women’s volleyball competition kicks off tonight at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City, Jovelyn Gonzaga of Guimaras predicts the Philippine women’s national volleyball team will earn a spot on the podium.
“Our cohesion is superb now and may have just the right combination of players,” she said in an interview with ESPN5.com. “We’re going to do our best to get that podium finish.”
“We’ve beaten Vietnam before and we’ve come close against Indonesia,” the former Central Philippine University standout added.
Aside from Gonzaga, also making the roster are Ilongga players Aiza Maizo Pontillas, Abigail Marano, and Mylene Paat; liberos Dawn Macandili and Kath Arado; wingers Alyssa Valdez, Ces Molina, and Eya Laure; setters Rhea Dimaculangan and Jia Morado; and middle blockers Mika Reyes, Majoy Baron, and Maddie Madayag.
