Change.org petition created calling attention to lamppost issues
Former Bacolod City Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, who ran for mayor earlier this year, recently called attention to the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road, where, she noted, the lampposts that line the over 10-kilometer road are not being used.
“The whole airport road, from Bacolod to Silay, has no lighted lamppost at all—not one!” she noted on social media. “I am watching the road all the time, wishing [there is] at least one lamppost that is not busted.”
“I am appealing to our government leaders—national and local—please attend to this,” the former city official added.
Batapa-Sigue recently started a change.org petition called “Sustained and Efficient Streetlighting at the Bacolod Silay Airport Access Road,” which, as of this writing, has surpassed 160 signatures.
The petition is addressed to Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director-General Jim Sydiongco.
“The people of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City are thankful for this access road,” the petition noted. “However, during recent years, the access road has constantly been the subject of complaints by commuters, residents, as well as visitors because of the poor state of its road lighting or illumination, especially during nighttime.”
“Many mishaps and accidents have already occurred [along] the said road and we wish not to see more of these,” the petition added. “Therefore, we are jointly raising our voices to bring this concern to your attention.”
Earlier this year, after bolts were reportedly stolen from lampposts along the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road, the DPWH in Bacolod City said they were seeking assistance from the Bacolod City Police Office in response to the incident./WDJ
