Philippines takes early lead in the medal tally

The Philippines opened their Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) campaign strong with a slew of gold medals over the weekend and currently top the medal tally.
Kim Mangrobang won her second straight SEA Games gold in triathlon while John Chicano took gold in the men’s event, along with Andrew Remolino taking silver. Meanwhile, Deseree Autor, Josefina Maat, Sarah Jean Kalalo, Jean Marie Sucalit, and Mary Ann Lopez won gold in women’s sepak takraw; with Metodio Suico, Jason Huerte, John Bobier, Emmanuel Escote, and John Morcillos taking the men’s competition.
The Philippines also dominated in arnis with Dexter Bolambao taking gold in the 55 kg and below division, Nino Talledo won the featherweight (+55kg less than 60kg) division, and Villardo Canumay ruled the live stick event.
In other results, Agatha Wong defended her gold medal in wushu in women’s taijiquan as Daniel Parantac took bronze in men’s wushu taijiqian; Carlos Edriel Yulo captured the all-around individual gold medal in artistic gymnastics, individual all-around event; Nino Surban and EJ Flores won silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s mountain bike cross-country competition; Avegail Rombaon captured bronze in women’s mountain bike cross-country; the men’s polo team won silver; and Mary Flor Diaz took bronze in weightlifting./ASC, WDJ
