Iloilo City has successfully garnered the number of points to be one of the three Philippine winners to receive the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award 2020-2022, according to Rebecca Villanueva-Labit, director of the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation.

The award is given to cities that have endeavored to beautify their public areas; improved the environment and sanitation; enhanced urban spaces; and promoted their man-made and natural attractions.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas dedicates the award to the Ilonggos. He said he will personally receive the award on the awarding ceremony on Jan. 16, 2020 at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

“Iloilo City as one of the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Awardees, proved that truly we are leveling up,” said Treñas.

“This warms my heart because having a clean city for my beloved Ilonggos and our tourists to feel safe is what I have worked hard for, for the past 5 months in office,” he added.

Treñas noted that his administration reactivated the beautification team and Task Force Boltahe to maintain the city’s broken street lights and cleanliness.

The city also established the green guards to protect the city parks, plazas, and public areas.

“We couldn’t have done this without everyone’s help,” he added./WDJ
