San Miguel Beermen has no regrets with its decision to suspend veterans Arwind Santos, Kelly Nabong and Ronald Tubid even if it resulted in their quarterfinals exit in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Santos, Nabong and Tubid were suspended indefinitely by Beermen’s management for engaging in a fight with former import Dezmine Wells during one of their practice sessions last week.
The Beermen ended its grand slam bid with their 100-97 defeat against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings during the quarterfinals last Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“It’s really unfortunate for us because everybody wanted that grand slam. But you know, you can’t win all games,” said Beermen head coach Leo Austria. “This is the ending we don’t want to happen. We came short.”

“Everything naman whether you’re successful or not, there’s always something that might happen to your team. Something for the better or something for the worse,” he added. “What we want is what’s best for the team.”
Despite this, Austria remains grateful to his players after Beermen wins a fifth straight Philippine Cup title, overcoming Terrence Jones and TnT Katropa in six games to bag the mid-season Commissioner’s Cup.
“Nothing to be ashamed of. I’m still very proud of our team,” said Austria. “Still, we’re the best team in the last five years because we won eight championships, And this season, we’re two out of three.”/ASC, WDJ
