The Bacolod Master Sardines’ losing streak in the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup continued following a narrow 67-66 loss to the Marikina Shoemasters last Thursday at the Marist School in Marikina City. The loss was Bacolod’s seventh consecutive defeat.
The Shoemasters surged to a 23-9 start and went on to lead by as much as 20 points but the Master Sardines showed some life in the third period as they chopped the deficit to 54-48.
In the final quarter, Bacolod continued its run behind Benedict Adamos and Nico Paolo Javelona to take a 61-60 edge. Then, following a back-and-forth, the Master Sardines took a 66-65 lead with 10 second remaining but, after Adamos missed two free throws, the Shoemasters’ Von Tamberling scored a game-winning layup.
Tamberling finished the match with 16 points for Marikina, while Daryl Pascual and Matthew Gines each scored 11.
Meanwhile, despite the loss, Javelona tallied 17 points for Bacolod, while Mikee Reyes chipped in 12./ASC, WDJ
