Members of the Negros Press Club and National Union of Journalists in the Philippines recently commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Maguindanao Massacre, where 58 individuals, including the 32 journalists, were killed in Ampatuan, Maguindanao.
“Until now, no conviction has been handed down against the mastermind of the brutal attack, the powerful Ampatuan clan,” the organizations said in a joint statement. “We demand our government to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
“The next few weeks will be critical as the promulgation of judgment is expected to be handed down on or before December 20,” the statement added. “We call on our colleagues and the Filipino people to be vigilant as we demand for ‘true justice’ for this grisly massacre.”
To commemorate the anniversary, the groups conducted a candle lighting ceremony and offering of prayers before the Marker for Fallen Journalists at the Bacolod Public Plaza. (PR)
