Father had been reportedly abusive

An eight-year-old boy reportedly shot and killed his father last Wednesday night after he was allegedly beaten by the latter inside their home in Sipalay City’s Barangay San Jose.
Police have requested anonymity for both the minor and the father.
Based on information provided by Sipalay City police, they interviewed the boy’s elder siblings and determined the assailant grew angry after he was scolded, struck, and kicked in the face by his father.
The boy then grabbed the father’s .38 caliber firearm and shot him several times.
The father was declared dead on the spot after sustaining three gunshot wounds to the chest.
A further investigation revealed the boy, along with his other siblings, regularly experienced abuse from their father and the minor involved in the shooting was taught how to use a gun.
It was further noted, the father was inebriated at the time of the incident.
The boy was turned over by police to the local social welfare and development office, while authorities are in the process of contacting the mother, who is presently working in Metro Manila./DGB, WDJ
