NU sweeps UAAP junior volleyball championships

The Nazareth School of National University (NU-Nazareth School) recently swept the 82nd UAAP junior tournament after capturing both the girls’ and boys’ competitions at the San Juan Arena. The girls’ team scored a 25-10, 25-17, 25-15 straight-set victory over Adamson University; while the boy’s pulled off a 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 win over Far Eastern University-Diliman.
Evangeline Alinsug, who was named Most Valuable Player of the finals, finished with 16 points on 12 spikes and two blocks for NU-Nazareth School; while Mhicaela Belen, the season MVP, dropped 13 markers; and Alyssa Solomon added 11.
NU-Nazareth School closed the first frame on a 13-2 blast, which was highlighted by five service aces from Camilla Lamina of Guimaras, who was named Best Setter, to take the upper hand before taking the second set.
In the third set, while holding to a single point 9-8 lead, NU-Nazareth School unleashed a 16-7 finishing kick, capped by Alinsug’s off-the-block kill to secure the school’s fifth championship in the last six years.

In the boys’ tournament, Mac Bandola, who was named Most Valuable Player of the finals two years in a row, led NU-Nazareth School with 15 points on 13 attacks; while Michaelo Buddin delivered 17 markers and 14 receptions; and Bryan Jaleco contributed six blocks and 10 points./ASC, WDJ
