The Negros Occidental Provincial Library in Bacolod City recently launched a Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs, and Economic Development Project Center, or Tech4ED Center, which seeks to provide e-government and information and communication technology-enabled services.
“The onslaught of [the] digital age is very apparent [and], truth remains, not everyone has access to modern technology and libraries remain their viable option for learning and gathering of information,” said Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson. “The specialized programs of Tech4Ed [are] for those in need of skills training for the IT-BPM (information technology-business process management) industry, out-of-school youth, the unemployed, small entrepreneurs, women, farmers, and fisherfolk.”
He called the facility a “big boost for their empowerment and development.”
The launch was conducted in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Also present for the event were Engr. Romeo Tome and Cresile Lozano of DICT-Negros Occidental; Provincial Librarian Rio Lynne Panisa; provincial secretary, Atty. Maki Angel Ascalon, Danny Clark Uguil of the Department of Education-Division of Negros Occidental; among others./WDJ
