Negrense players Bernadeth Pons and Cherry Rondina recently won the 2019 Rebisco Beach Volleyball International Open at the Sands at SM by the Bay in Pasay City. The pair completed a six-game sweep and closed with a 21-10, 21-16 win over Dij Rodriguez and Angelique Gervacio in the finals.
Pons and Rondina also scored wins over international teams from Hong Kong and Thailand.
Both finalist pairs will represent the Philippines in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which is hosted by the Philippines this year and is scheduled to formally run from November 30 to December 11.
Meanwhile, Efraim Dimaculangan and Rancel Varga scored a 21-12, 21-18 win over fellow Filipino pair Kris Roy Guzman and Jaron Requinton to take the men’s beach volleyball crown./ASC, WDJ
