Bacolod Tay Tung High School completed a four-peat in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) girls’ volleyball event after scoring a 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 over St. John’s Institute (SJI) in last Saturday’s finals at the University of St. La Salle gym in Bacolod City.
Led by Alyssa Bertolano, Joan Marie Monares, and Shane Carmona, Tay Tung jumped to an early double-digit lead in each set before staving off SJI comeback attempts.
Tay Tung team manager Jose Montalbo called the competition “good preparation” for next week’s Rebisco Volleyball League national finals in Manila.
Also part of the championship-winning roster were Kiesha Bedonia, Katherine Cortez, Rhean Almendralejo, Aurea Alvero, Gwen Banas, Annika Cabasac, Sophie Cagalawan, Nicolei Galvan, Jermaine Joniega, Julianne Monares, Kathleen Tan, and Alijah Ysulan.
Meanwhile, SJI won the U-12 division after beating Trinity Christian School.
