San Beda forces a decider
After dropping Game 1 of the 95th NCAA men’s basketball finals, San Beda University forced the series into a decider following their 79-76 win over Colegio de San Juan de Letrán last night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Trailing 66-59 midway in the fourth period, San Beda came up with a 12-0 blast behind Calvin Oftana, James Canlas, and Kemark Cariño to take a 72-66 edge. However, Letrán responded with a rally from King Caralipio, Larry Muyang, and Jeo Ambohot to tie the score at 72-all before taking a 76-74 edge on back-to-back hits from Muyang.
A three-point play by Oftana swung the advantage back to San Beda, who led 77-76 with 19 seconds left. Canlas then upped San Beda’s lead to 79-76 with two free throws.
Canlas finished with 21 points for San Beda, while Oftana and Ilonggo small forward Clint Doliguez each chipped in 17.
Game 3 takes place on Tuesday at the same venue./ASC, WDJ
