Suspect formally presented at Malacañang yesterday
The suspected gunman behind the murder of radio broadcaster Dindo Generoso surfaced on Wednesday and surrendered to his commanding officer at the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office. Police Corporal Roger Rubio, the supposed assailant, claimed he surrendered as he feared for his safety.
However, the suspect denied the allegations and claimed he was in Guihulngan City when the shooting occurred.
Prior to surrendering, Rubio sought protection from the Commission on Human Rights in Negros Oriental.
The following day, Rubio was immediately flown to Manila and was presented by Presidential Task Force on Media Security Executive Director Joel Egco during a news conference at Malacañan Palace yesterday morning.
According to Egco, Rubio surrendered due to mounting pressure from the intensified manhunt operations by law enforcement in Negros Oriental.
He further stated, the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte will go after and hold the perpetrators of media killings accountable.
Egco added, they are presently looking at politics as the motive behind the murder.
Last week, Generoso was gunned down in Dumaguete City’s Barangay Piapi.
