According to a recent social media post by the Presidential Communications Operations Office, under ‘Build, Build, Build,’ an initiative of the President Rodrigo Duterte administration, 2,709 bridges have been constructed between 2016 and 2018.
The agency cites data provided by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar.
Towards the end of last month, amid speculation the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge project had been scrapped after Economic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said there would be approximately 75 priority projects trimmed from the ‘Build, Build, Build’ list, DPWH-6 confirmed the project would proceed.
DPWH-6 director, Engr. Lea Delfinado, confirmed during a radio interview with RMN DYHB-Bacolod that the project was not included among infrastructure projects ordered “shelved” due to financial and technical problems.
Meanwhile, government data also noted, the infrastructure project has produced 9,845 kilometers of roads across the country./WDJ
