With sanitation officers currently deployed across Iloilo City in order to enforce the city’s anti-littering ordinance, an additional 345 workers have been added to the labor force to maintain cleanliness across the city.
The laborers will be working under the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and General Services Office and are responsible for beautification and greening efforts, along with various cleaning projects.
“They are working at 365 pesos minimum wage for 45 days,” Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas noted. “This undertaking will be of big help to our beneficiaries in time for Christmas.”
The anti-littering policy seeks to reduce littering on the streets, sidewalks, and other public places; along with discouraging public urination and defecation, spitting in public places, and posting graffiti or other forms of vandalism; in addition to cracking down on those who fail to maintain cleanliness in their general area.
Those caught in violation of the ordinance will be issued a citation ticket and fined P500 on their first offense, P750 for a second, and P1,000 on the third./WDJ
