Henri Lorenzo Subido drained a go-ahead triple that advanced the University of Santo Tomas (UST) to the 82nd UAAP men’s basketball finals as it solidified their 68-65 win over the University of the Philippines (UP) last night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
UST opened with an18-6 start but, by the second period, UP made it a one point-game, trailing 29-28 at the half.
In the third quarter, UST pulled ahead 40-33; however, UP then took a 63-59 edge in the fourth.
Trailing 65-63, Subido pushed UST to a 66-65 lead after providing a three-point hit with 23 seconds left in the game. After a UP turnover, Soulemane Chabi Yo gave UST a 68-65 advantage with two free throws.
Chabi Yo finished with a double-double for UST on 22 points and 16 rebounds; while Subido chipped in 14 markers; Negrense point guard Mark Nonoy added 12; and Rhenz Abando provided 11 points and nine rebounds./ASC, WDJ
