Far Eastern University (FEU) forced a second game in the 82nd UAAP women’s basketball semifinals after scoring a 48-46 win over University of Santo Tomas (UST) earlier this week at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. UST has a twice-to-beat advantage.
Fatima Quiampo fired off a career-best 18 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals for FEU; while Valerie Mamaril chipped in nine points and five rebounds; Clare Castro tallied eight points, 15 boards, and two blocks; and Choy Bahuyan had eight points, five rebounds, and two assists.
Staring at a 43-39 deficit, FEU unloaded eight straight points to build a 47-43 lead. UST responded with Ruby Portillo uncorking a triple to cut the gap to 47-46 but, after Mamaril made it a two-point game with a split from the line within the last 7.4 second of the game, UST had a chance to tie things up but Grace Irebu’s pass to Jeorge Panti was well read by the FEU defense.
Game 2 will be played tomorrow at the same venue./ASC, WDJ
