An initial P80,000 reward is being offered for anybody who can provide information on the whereabouts of Police Corporal Roger Rubio and suspected gambling lord Tomacino Aledro, who are both linked to the recent murder of Dumaguete City radio broadcaster Dindo Generoso.
The announcement was made yesterday by Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOrPPO) chief, Police Colonel Julian Entoma, who noted, Rubio and Aledro, along with retired Police Corporal Glenn Corsame and Teddy Reyes Salaw, all face murder charges.
Police Regional Office-7 director, Police Brigadier General Val de Leon, issued strict orders to Entoma and investigators to establish “air-tight” evidence against the mastermind behind the murder.
At least five tracker teams have been sent out to pursue and arrest the suspects.
The radio personality was ambushed and killed by riding-in-tandem suspect last week while on his way to work at DYEM-FM Bai Radio 96.7 station in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City.
Police said they are looking at Generoso being a reportedly “hard-hitting commentator” as a possible motive behind the incident. Other considerations include politics or a land dispute.
The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFToMS) earlier claimed “an influential local politician” could be behind the killing.
Meanwhile, Entoma said the reward money came from a concerned citizen and the amount may increase to over a million pesos as donors continue to contribute to the fund.
Investigators said Salaw is the brother-in-law of Aledro, who reportedly fled to the United States.
The NOrPPO chief said he was coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration on the suspect’s reported flight abroad.
Police said Aledro owns the Mitsubishi pick-up that was used by the other suspects in the murder. The car was later recovered by a tracker team in Valencia.
In addition, Entoma said Rubio, a member of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, could still be in Negros.
PTFoMS said in reports that Aledro serves as a financier for illegal gambling and “bookies” for small town lottery firm Red Carpet, which is associated with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office in Negros Oriental. The suspect reportedly serves as a ‘dummy financier.’/DGB, WDJ
