The mother of slain Bureau of Jail Management and Penology officer, Jail Officer 1 Jayvee Jason Vargas, surfaced yesterday and is seeking justice. Yvonne Vargas, a public school teacher, denied her son and husband, former Senior Jail Officer 1 Joeby Vargas, were involved with illegal drug activities.
She questioned why her son was being accused of involvement with illegal drugs as they have not received any criminal complaints nor were they visited by police as part of “Oplan: Tokhang.”
“All I want is justice,” she said. “Justice for my son because the way he was killed was too much.”
The victim’s mother also addressed her son’s attackers.
“What has he ever done you wrong?” she asked. “Why did you kill him?”
She also called for intervention by President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo.
Last week, Vargas was killed in an ambush by unidentified gunmen in Bacolod City’s Barangay Tangub, which also wounded four others.
The victim was killed on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body, while the other occupants of the pickup truck he was operating were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Police recovered a total of 95 empty bullet cartridges of different calibers from the crime scene.
Police Station 9 commander, Police Lieutenant Jovito Pastrana, believes there were around eight gunmen who conducted the ambush and, with the way is carried out, the incident was likely planned./DGB, WDJ
