Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he is not surprised the House of Representatives approved a bill postponing the 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Speaking to members of the media yesterday morning, the governor said it is not the first time the barangay polls have been postponed as barangay officials were previously given an extension.
“I’m not really surprised and it is just giving barangay officials longer to serve their respective communities,” Lacson stressed.
The governor also said the recent poll postponement should serve as an “inspiration” for incumbent officials to serve longer.
Last week, the House of Representatives approved HB 4933, which reschedules the May 2020 Barangay and SK polls to December 5, 2022.
194 lawmakers approved the bill, six voted against, and there were no abstentions./DGB, WDJ
