Cauayan experiences 2.3-magnitude tremor
According to data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), three earthquakes were recorded over the weekend near Sipalay City. Beginning at 4:22 p.m. last Saturday, a 2.0-magnitude quake struck north of the Negros Occidental city. Just under an hour later, a 2.8-magnitude tremor was detected; then, 10 minutes later, at 5:28 p.m., a 2.9-magnitude earthquake struck the same area.
A subsequent Phivolcs bulletin reported no damages in the Negros Occidental city as a result of the quakes and, despite the close intervals at which the earthquakes struck, the agency affirmed there were no anticipated aftershocks.
Meanwhile, less than an hour after third Sipalay City quake, a 2.3-mangitude tremor was recorded north of Cauayan, also in Negros Occidental.
A separate bulletin reported no damages in the Negros Occidental municipality as a result of the quake nor were they any anticipated aftershocks.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
