The Negros Occidental provincial government recently informed those involved in illegal quarrying that they are not tolerating the activity. Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the provincial government will not allow violations and shortcuts in quarry operations and affirmed permits must be obtained beforehand.
The Provincial Environment Management Office will be on guard, he added.
Lacson also noted, amid an ongoing “construction boom” in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, there has been an increase in quarrying for sand and gravel. He pointed out, there is nothing wrong with demand increasing.
“It only means progress in Negros Occidental,” the governor insisted. “We can see that with the construction of more hotels, condominiums, and public works such as roads.”/DGB, WDJ
