National Labor Relations Commission single entry approach focal person and conciliator mediator Romeo Pasustento recently presented a report on single entry approach, which refers to the administrative procedure involving a mandatory 30-day conciliation-mediation to ensure a speedy, impartial, inexpensive, and accessible settlement for all labor and employment issues.
According to the report, 91 percent of the 1,617 cases requesting a speedy resolution were handled between January and September of this year.
It also noted, around P15,587,000 were awarded.
“This is a successful handling of workers’ concerns to their employers,” he said. “Both employees and employers have benefited since their labor disputes [were] resolved [at] the earliest time without the costly litigation process.”
RA 10396 amended the Labor Code of the Philippines to require conciliation-mediation; while the Department of Labor and Employment issued Department Order No. 107- 10 in October 2010, which provides the process guidelines./WDJ
