Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson recently called on local residents to unite in the struggle to end local insurgency.
“We actually have a local battle still going on and, hopefully, we will be united behind our government to end local insurgency in the province,” the governor stated. “My call is for unity amongst us.”
“I challenge every Negrense to be active especially in their community,” he added. “No matter how little that you have, you can still make a difference.”
Meanwhile, he also threw his support behind the military and local law enforcement following their recent raid on offices said to be serving as recruitment facilities for the New People’s Army.
“It is now really a military and police operation,” Lacson said. “Those arrested will be given [the] chance to defend themselves.”
The offices in question were occupied by party-list groups Anakpawis, Gabriela, and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan; along with Kilusang Mayo Uno and the National Federation of Sugarcane Workers./WDJ
