Two out of the three suspects involved in the murder of Dumaguete City radio broadcaster Dindo Generoso have been arrested after police conducted a follow-up operation yesterday morning. Police identified the two arrested suspects as retired Police Corporal Glenn Corsame and Teddy Reyes Salaw, both residents of the said city.
A third suspect, the supposed triggerman, Police Corporal Roger Rubio, remains at large.
Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO) director, Police Colonel Julian Entoma, said the suspects were identified based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage taken from several establishments near the crime scene. The footage showed Rubio inside a pickup truck parked along the city’s boulevard a few kilometers away from the crime scene. When Generoso’s car passed the pickup truck, Rubio got out of his vehicle and immediately boarded a motorcycle driven by Corsame.
The NOrPPO director said they were able to identify the pickup truck based on the conduction sticker while Corsame was identified through the markings on the helmet he was wearing.
Salaw, meanwhile, was identified as the spotter and driver of the pickup truck.
They also discovered the pickup truck had fake license plates.
Police recovered Corsame’s mobile phone, which still had text messages between the suspects; along with one .45 caliber pistol with eight live bullets from Salaw’s possession.
Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he will form a special investigation team in order to probe the incident. Guevarra, who chairs the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), said he may tap the National Bureau of Investigation for assistance.
PTFoMS executive director Joel Sy Egco also released a statement saying the “dastardly act” will not go unpunished.
Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar, who co-chairs, commended the tight coordination and dedication of the PTFoMS secretariat and Police Regional Office-7.
