Ilonggo mixed martial artist Rene Catalan will be fighting in the ONE Championship: Masters of Fate event tonight at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, where he will meet fellow Filipino, strawweight world champion Joshua Pacio.
“I’m excited—this is it,” the fighter said. “The only thing I can ask now from my team is to pray for me.”
Catalan earlier acknowledged his “underdog” status but expressed confidence in his abilities.
“[Pacio] is really good, he has youth by his side and he has an excellent camp; there are a lot of people who can help him,” said the Santa Barbara native. “I know that I’m the underdog.”
“I am really determined to win, that’s my advantage,” he added. “Unanimous decision, that’s how I see this match going.”
Meanwhile, Catalan’s brother, Robin Catalan, will be battling Olympic wrestler Gustavo Balart in the undercard but said he will not be ringside.
“I already delegated cornering duties in Robin’s fight to our coaches,” he explained. “As much as I want to, I have to focus on the world title shot.”
“I have full confidence in my coaches and in Robin that they can pull it off,” the mixed martial artist affirmed./ASC, WDJ
