A Dumaguete City-based radio broadcaster was killed yesterday by riding-in-tandem gunmen in the city’s Barangay Piapi.
Police identified the fatality as Dindo Generoso, a radio broadcaster for DyEM 96.7 Bai Radio and a resident of Barangay Banilad.
Dumaguete City police chief, Police Lt. Colonel Wilfredo Alarcon, Jr., said the victim was driving to work when two unidentified men aboard a motorcycle opened fire at his vehicle.
The suspects immediately fled the area while Generoso was rushed by paramedics to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
Alarcon said Generoso had been receiving threats to his life via phone calls prior to the murder.
Police believe his work as a media personality may be behind the shooting.
In response, National Union of Journalists in the Philippines Chairman Nonoy Espina said, “Whatever the reason, murder is never justified.”
He added, a formal statement is forthcoming once police establish a clear motive./DGB, WDJ
