Two University of St. La Salle (USLS) alumni groups donated 61 solar-powered lanterns to Sitos Nanilab and Tininawan in La Carlota City last week. The USLS Graduate School Class of 1964 and USLS High School Class of 1968 took part in the turnover at the Barangay Ara-al gym.
Barangay Kagawad Jose Garfil, Jr. welcomed the group.
The recipients reportedly live in areas that require them to walk two to three hours in areas without electricity and are inaccessible to vehicles.
The lanterns are able to provide light for up to 12 hours after being charged by the sun.
The turnover was part of the “Let There Be Light” project, which seeks to provide 1,000 lanterns to families across Negros./WDJ
