Bacolod Tay Tung High School won both the elementary and juniors basketball divisions of the 39th Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) season over the weekend at the STI-West Negros University gym in Bacolod City. Tay Tung won the elementary category with a 70-64 victory over the St. John’s Institute; while they captured the juniors division after their expected opponents, Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias, were suspended following the “basketbrawl” that ensued during their semifinal.
The elementary team was comprised of Dave Matthew Recodo, Adrian Alagaban, Chino Uy, Joachim Chuatico, Jovel Gonzales, Shenlee Arriesgado, Jann Francis Barcellano, Asha Carl Wang, James Li, Francis John Lamasan, William Malacad, Carlos Cacanata, Ern Bagay, Markus Severino, Karl Fernandez, Ronnie Medina, Jr., and John Christopher Bejemino; while the junior steam included Felix Valencia, Josh Luciano, MJ Beatingo, John Mark Mercado, Joseph Palaganas, Jules Wong, Nathan Jundana, Mike Estelloso, Kobe Demisana, Elyjah Kee, Ryan Tan, Nick Tan, and Arkel Santero.
The NOPSSCEA Committee on Sports earlier conducted an investigation into the aforementioned fight and found both teams had violated Article 39 of the 2018 Official FIBA Basketball Rules by FIBA, resulting in both sides receiving a one-game suspension./ASC, WDJ
