According to data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), a 2.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded just north of Hinoba-an yesterday morning around 7:20 a.m.
A subsequent Phivolcs bulletin reported no damages in the Negros Occidental municipality as a result of the quake nor were they any anticipated aftershocks.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected.
Last month, a 4.5-magnitude tremor was recorded near Hinoba-an.
The earthquake was said to have registered an Intensity IV in both Hinoba-an and Sipalay City. An Intensity IV is felt by many and may disrupt dishes, windows, doors, along with causing cars to rock.
Meanwhile, an Intensity III, where few people feel the tremor, particularly those on the upper floors of buildings, was felt in Negros Oriental, in Basay and Bayawan City.
In addition, earlier that day, a 3.0-magnitude quake was detected off the coast of Anini-y, Antique./WDJ
