The International Mask Art and Culture Organization (IMACO), a South Korean group committed to safeguarding and promoting the cultural value of masks, is expected to hold a mask exhibit today at SM City Bacolod. Bacolod City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran is expected to attend the opening at 2:00 p.m.
Dawon Ginny Lee, chief of IMACO’s international cooperation team, said they are “very delighted” to host their second event in the city.
She said they have brought more than 400 masks from 22 countries, including the Philippines, South Korea, China, Thailand, and Indonesia, for the exhibit, which is expected to run until December 26.
The IMACO official also said they will host a formal grand opening on November 6, which is expected to draw 200 delegates from 17 countries.
This year’s event aims to expand research on mask culture from a broad perspective, including the origins, transmission, myths, rituals, communities, performers, and more./DGB, WDJ
