The Negros Occidental provincial government is expected to distribute cash entitlements to 33 centenarians, or those who have reached the age of 100, during this year’s Cinco de Noviembre celebration at the Capitol Park and Lagoon.
According to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office head Elena Serenias, the recipients will personally receive cash incentives.
Meanwhile, the province will also recognize the 2019 Outstanding Negrosanons during the ceremony. This year’s recipients include Rodolfo Reveche for culture and arts promotion for community development, Jesus Antonio Orbida for organic farming, Charlie Co for visual arts, Chef Fernando Aracama for culinary tourism, and Teodoro Locsin for public service.
An ordinance currently before the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod seeking to allow the distribution of cash benefits for centenarians to 80 year olds passed its second reading earlier this week.
City Councilor Archie Baribar, who penned the proposal, suggested spreading out the total P100,000 cash allotment by providing P10,000 when a city resident is between 80 and 89 years old, along with a second P10,000 disbursement if they surpass the age of 90.
The remaining P80,000 will be given if the resident reaches 100 years old.
The city official claimed the move is the “desire of the city.”/DGB, WDJ
