After trees along the Iloilo River Esplanade were recently found uprooted, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced he is offering a P50,000 reward for anybody able to help track down those responsible.
“I am willing to spend money para makahatag kita reward para madakpan kon sin o ang naga vandalize kag nagapatay sa mga tanum nga ari diri (I am willing to spend the money to provide a reward for the capture of whomever vandalized and killed the plants in the area),” he said.
The mayor affirmed the money is coming out of his own pocket.
Earlier, Iloilo City green and tourist guards, along with police auxiliary units, completed a “professionalization” training intended to help guide them on how to properly carry out their responsibilities.
“The city government made sure that the newly-hired field employees are capable of being first responders in any untoward incidents,” explained Executive Assistant Mark Ryan Acap.
According to Treñas, the newly-hired personnel were needed for both maintaining public safety and enforcing environmental regulations.
Aside from the recent training, the group was also subject to self-defense training and a paralegal seminar-workshop for anti-littering officers./WDJ
