By Adrian Stewart Co

Ceres-Negros FC will be looking to top Group A when they face the Philippines men’s U-22 national football team this afternoon in the Copa Paulino Alcántara at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
The three-time Philippines Football League (PFL) champions earlier opened their cup campaign with a 2-2 draw against Mendiola FC.
Despite the Negrense club winning all four of their PFL meetings with Mendiola this season, scoring an aggregate 16 goals to three, Ceres head coach Risto Vidaković went into the match hoping to give players who did not get much time on the pitch during the regular season an opportunity to play.
“We have many players that didn’t play in the league,” he previously explained. “I wanted to give them a chance to prove themselves.”
The U-22 team opened their cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Green Archers United. Striker Chima Uzoka scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute.
Meanwhile, Green Archers United and Mendiola FC will also meet today at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa City, Batangas./ASC, WDJ
