Antique struck by early morning tremor
According to data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), a 4.5-magnitude tremor was recorded yesterday afternoon near Hinoba-an. The earthquake reportedly struck at 2:53 p.m. just north of the Negros Occidental municipality.
The earthquake was said to have registered an Intensity IV in both Hinoba-an and Sipalay City. Based on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, an Intensity IV is felt by many and may disrupt dishes, windows, doors, along with causing cars to rock.
Meanwhile, an Intensity III, where few people feel the tremor, particularly those on the upper floors of buildings, was felt in Negros Oriental, in Basay and Bayawan City.
A subsequent Phivolcs reported no damages or aftershocks as a result of the quake.
Earlier in the day, a 3.0-magnitude quake was detected off the coast of Anini-y.
The earthquake struck the Antique town early in the morning, around 1:26 a.m.
Phivolcs also reported no damages or aftershocks as a result of the quake.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
