UST, NU bag beach volleyball titles
By Adrian Stewart Co

The University of Santo Tomas and National University clinched beach volleyball titles at the 24th University Games (UniGames) at Breakthrough in Iloilo City’s Villa Arevalo district. UST’s Mer Jauculan and Derie Virtusio scored a 21-17, 21-19 win over NU in the women’s final; while NU’s James Buytrago and Pol Salvador pulled off a 21-18, 21-10 victory over the University of the Philippines on the men’s side.
“It was our heart-centered approach to the game that led us to victory,” Virtusio told USA Publications. “We just studied our opponent’s movements as part of our preparation and properly executed our tactics.”
On the men’s side, Buytrago credited their win to how they executed their abilities.
“Hard work, perseverance, and the blockings we executed during the game paved the way to the finals,” he said. “This UniGames serves as an experience for us to develop our skills and to effectively communicate with my teammate.”/ASC, WDJ
