Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon III urged local hog farmers to safeguard their livestock. He also assured the city government will assist in preventing the entry of African swine flu (ASF) during a symposium held recently in the city’s Balay Kauswagan.
The mayor said, while the city and the province are not affected, he urged livestock raisers to provide safeguards, especially since the issue is impacting backyard raisers in particular.
“There are many diseases affecting the livestock industry which are difficult to cure,” he said. “We have trained men to educate our people and help prevent swine fever.”
The symposium was organized by the City Veterinary Office with the Provincial Task Force on African swine fever.
Veterinarians, paravets, agriculture teachers and students, piggery owners, and backyard hog raisers attended the symposium./DGB, WDJ
