Negrense leads UST to athletics title

Negrense sprinter Jessa Mae Jarder led the University of Santo Tomas women’s athletics team to 2019 University Games championship yesterday at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City. The Victorias City native won six gold medals and one silver, and was named Most Valuable Player.
She captured gold in the women’s 200-meter dash; 400-meter dash; 400-meter hurdles; along with the 4×100 meter relay, 4×200 meter relay, and classical relay alongside Ilongga athletes Berna Luz Talaron, Pamela Marquillero, and Elvy Villagoniza.
Jarder took silver in the 4×400 meter relay.
“I just want to thank God for giving me strength to compete and win medals here,” she said.
Meanwhile, for Villagoniza, who is originally from Iloilo City, she won gold in the long jump and triple jump, along with a silver medal in high jump.
Other local medalists for UST include Marquillero of Pavia, who took home four gold medals, including one in the 100-meter hurdles; while Kiervi Sumande Abelo of Bago City won gold in men’s shot put./ASC,WDJ
