Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas recently issued an executive order calling for the digitization of city records.
“We want to fast-track the processing of documents through proper record-keeping to make it easy and fast for transacting public,” the mayor explained.
The move is expected to both promote transparency and ease the process of records retrieval; along with save space and facilitate access, preservation, transfer, retention, indexing, and virtual storage of all records.
Last month, in an effort to modernize, Treñas was reportedly gearing up to sign a memorandum of agreement with Smart Telecommunications and Globe Telecom to bring free Wi-Fi to public offices, parks, plazas, and certain streets.
“The partnerships are a big help for us in our quest to become a ‘Smart City,’” he said. “I am very excited with this as we will be giving the public more access to avail of services and for us to better serve them.”
Earlier, the Iloilo City government announced, amid plans to provide faster services to city residents, they would be partnering with Smart Communications to bring innovative technology to the city, including access to a mobile payment option.
“They will introduce a mobile payment application,” said Treñas. “They are going to partner with us in our quest to become a ‘Smart City’ and I am very excited.”/WDJ
