Elements of the Philippine Army 94th Infantry Battalion (94IB) recently captured an encampment belonging to New People’s Army (NPA) insurgents in Ayungon, Negros Oriental. Information provided by 94IB said they seized the camp on Wednesday morning after civilians reported the presence of armed individuals in the area.
94IB noted, the NPA rebels were possibly attempting to avoid a full-on fight with government forces as the camp was hurriedly vacated.
The army said the NPA camp could accommodate at least 15 insurgents.
A search of the area yielded a portable generator set, three rifle scopes, parts for an improvised explosive device, a medical kit, and handcuffs.
Soldiers also recovered personal belongings of the insurgents among, which included NPA t-shirts and cooking utensils.
94IB also noted the campsite was around one kilometer away from the area where NPA rebels murdered four police officials last July.
Military officials noted, they are presently hunting down the fleeing NPA rebels in order to prevent them from engaging in any atrocities against the local population./DGB, WDJ
