Negros was struck by earthquakes over the weekend with a 2.0-magnitude tremor detected near Sipalay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday morning, around 7:21 a.m.; while the second quake, measuring 2.7 in magnitude, was detected early Sunday morning, around 2:17 a.m., off the coast of Basay, Negros Oriental.
Subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletins reported no damages as a result of the incident nor were there aftershocks expected.
Earlier this month, a 2.6-magnitude earthquake was also detected off the coast of Basay.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
