Barangay Ginebra San Miguel leaned on a third quarter onslaught to score a 105-83 win over the Magnolia Hotshots in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup over the weekend at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Justin Brownlee fell short of a triple-double for Barangay Ginebra with 27 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds; while Earl Scottie Thompson and Japeth Aguilar each had 14 points.
Holding to a slim 45-44 halftime score, Barangay Ginebra started the third period with outside conversions from LA Tenorio and Stanley Pringle to establish a 58-51 edge. However, Magnolia responded with a run to trim their deficit to 60-56. Barangay Ginebra went on to extend their lead to 79-65 off three outside conversions by Negrense shooting guard Jeffrei Chan and inside hits from Aguilar.
Into the fourth quarter, Barangay Ginebra continued their scoring spree with conversions from Arthur Dela Cruz, Aljon Mariano, and Brownlee as the lead reached its largest at 28 points./ASC, WDJ
