The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently reviewed weighing scales at the Public Market of Patnongon in Antique and the monitoring team, which included representatives from the Patnongon municipal government, found 11 defective units.
The team reviewed a total of 165 scales at the market.
According to DTI, the defective units were confiscated by the Office of the Municipal Treasurer and Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Office for calibration.
Earlier this year, weighing scale inspections were scheduled for Bacolod City’s Burgos Public Market, Central Market, and Libertad Public Market. According to Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, inspections and monitoring were conducted following complaints claiming vendors were using incorrect data or lacked proper equipment.
The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution last January calling on the City Treasurer’s Office to conduct an inspection of all instruments for weights and measures at the said markets./WDJ
