The University of Santo Tomas (UST) leaned on clutch triples to score an 84-78 win over the University of the Philippines in the 82nd UAAP men’s basketball season last Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Towards the close of the game, Brent Paraiso and Henri Lorenzo Subido came up with back-to-back triples, which allowed UST to turn a 78-74 deficit into an 82-78 advantage with 26.7 seconds remaining.
Subido went on to seal the win with free throws.
Sherwin Concepcion tallied a career-best 16 points and five rebounds for UST; while Soulemane Chabi Yo produced a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards; Subido finished with 13 points, shooting 3-of-6 from deep, alongside five rebounds and five assists; and Paraiso notched six points and four boards.
“Being a young team and making the right decisions down the stretch, that was big for us,” said UST head coach Aldin Ayo. “I told them to make every possession count, execute the plays, and make the right decisions—and they did.”/ASC, WDJ
