During his visit to Bacolod City yesterday, Senator Manny Pacquiao affirmed he is currently not interested in seeking higher office in the 2022 Philippine national elections.
During a press conference, the champion boxer denied rumors claiming he would be seeking the vice presidency.
He admitted regretting the decision to enter politics after understanding all of the country’s problems and controversies.
Pacquiao said people should really know the “true problem and situation.”
He also expressed his dismay over graft and corruption.
In 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte said he wanted Pacquiao to succeed him.
Following his bout with Adrien Broner last January, Pacquiao also stated he had no intention of running for president and said he is happy serving as a senator.
Last month, when Pacquiao was in town for a Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League game at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum, he distributed over P1.5 million to local residents.
Since bagging the World Boxing Association super welterweight title following a split decision win over American fighter Keith Thurman last July, the senator has been giving out P1,000 at random to various beneficiaries./DGB, WDJ
