In response to the earlier closure of resort destination Boracay, which ran from April 26 to October 26, 2018, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Sustainable Livelihood Program, recently distributed P7.9 million to organizations affected by the closure.
“Hindi tumigil ang DSWD sa pagtupad ng kaniyang pangako na ipagpatuloy ang pagtulong para sa iba’t ibang grupo na naapektuhan ng pagsasara ng Boracay (DSWD will not stop fulfilling its promise to help various groups affected by the closure of Boracay,” affirmed Undersecretary Mark Allan Jay G. Yambao.
Among the recipients of the funding included the Malay Sailing Boat Owners Inc. Multipurpose Cooperative, who received P1 million for a commodity store project; Malay Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association also received P1 million for rice trading and motorcycle services; Malay Boracay Vendors Association was provided with P986 million for an accessories product supply and massage services; among others.
Also present for the turnover ceremony were DSWD Field Office-Region VI Assistant Operations Director Delia V. Bagolcol; DSWD Assistant Secretary Rhea B. Peñaflor; and Sustainable Livelihood Program National Program Manager, Dir. Restituto B. Macuto./WDJ
