4,000-seat facility planned for SM City Iloilo
The Iloilo City government recently allocated funding towards an initiative to promote the city as a destination for meetings, incentive travel, conventions, and exhibitions, or MICE
“To complement the initiative of the national government and all partners, we have to do what we can to promote Iloilo,” said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas. “We will work together in this endeavor.”
He explained, P28 million, which has been submitted for next year’s budget, will go towards various programs and activities; P6 million for the MICE Center, which is located on the third floor of City Hall; P3.6 million for tourism promotions and investment; and P2 million for printing and publication costs.
Meanwhile, a 4,000-seat SMX Convention Center is being planned for SM City Iloilo, located in the city’s Mandurriao district.
“Events will be promoted here because of the already-crowded capital cities [and] that is why I am very happy,” the mayor noted. “We want to push further this economic driver to provide jobs to our people.”
“We will try to get as much MICE activities,” he added./WDJ
