Election Registration Board hearing in Bacolod City
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

The Commission on Election (Comelec) in Bacolod City will conduct an Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing for 14,976 applicants at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 21, at Comelec Office on San Juan Street. The ERB is part of the process of registering to vote in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, which are scheduled for May 11, 2020.
According to the Comelec: “All applications for registration and other voter-related applications are not automatically approved. These applications have to be approved or disapproved by the ERB in every applicable district, city, and municipality.”
Comelec elections supervisor, Atty. Mavil Majarucon-Sia, said, at present, the total number of registered voters in the city is 270,081 after deactivating 42,000 voters who failed to vote in two prior elections.
The elections official said applicants subject to the ERB hearing either transferred, issued a correction, or are a new applicant.
Earlier this month, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office director, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, issued an order for all personnel to register to vote. He said the order came directly from national headquarters wherein all police personnel are required to register with the Comelec as they must exercise their right to suffrage every election.
The police official said, in the previous election, 500 out of the 1,800 eligible police officers permanently posted to the province cast their votes./DGB, WDJ
