Philippine National Police (PNP) Director-General Oscar Albayalde is expected to arrive in Bacolod City today to visit the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO).
NOPPO director, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, said he believes the police official’s reason for visiting the province is part of his tour of police offices across the country ahead of his upcoming retirement on November 8.
Albayalde is expected to attend this morning’s flag ceremony at Camp Alfredo Montelibano, Sr. in Bacolod City’s Barangay Estefania.
He is also going to lead an awards ceremony for a police officer who was wounded during last week’s gun battle with New People’s Army rebels in Kabankalan City.
Earlier this month, a gun ban was put into effect in Bacolod City for the duration of the ongoing MassKara Festival. According to an order issued by Albayalde, permits to carry firearms outside of residence are temporarily suspended.
The order further stated, “Only members of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies who are performing official duties and in agency-prescribed uniforms will be allowed to carry firearms.”/DGB, WDJ
